Carestream Revolution

I just had a medical adventure. While asleep in the hospital, an X-ray tech came into my room with a flamboyant X-ray machine. It unfolded itself at the end of my bed, took a photo of my chest with a plate behind me, folded itself up and was whisked away. It only took a few minutes. Progress is fine.

B.K. Elliott Drawing Cabinet

B.K Elliot was a long time seating and surveying store in Pittsburgh PA. I can’t find any history of the company but it seems to have disappeared.

Steamboat Castine

This pretty little 71 foot steamboat was built at Brewer Maine in 1889. For 44 years the boat steamed around Penobscot Bay delivering passenger and freight to various docks, becoming part of shorefront community. In 1935, while working along Vinalhaven in the fog it ran up on a ledge and rolled. People panicked and were thrown in the water. Another steamer was nearby and rescued all but 4. During the night, the wind and waves came up and the boat was soon wrecked.

Brooks Locomotive

George Abdill; A Locomotive Engineers Album, Bonanza Books 1965
The Brooks Locomotive company built this showy 0-6-0 in 1883 for display for the Chicago Exposition of Railway Appliances.  Without pilot or trailing wheels it doesn't look like a road locomotive, but the drivers seem too big for a switcher.

Harper Runabout

The Classic Notorcycle Nov 1985
Competing at the 1922 Scottish 6 Days Trial, these odd little three wheelers were produced and entered by a Mr. R.O. Harper of Manchester. Powered by a 269 cc Villiers engine, neither of them finished. However, the next year R.O. Harper completed the course and won a silver medal.
A run of 250 had been contracted to be built by A V  Roe Aircraft. They were not commercially viable and the order was not repeated.

Norton version of the Triumph TRW

The Classic Motorcycle Dec 18984
In 1953, Norton decided they should try to get some military business. Starting with the Dominator twin, they made a sidevalve top end for it. One prototype was made and tested, installed in a 16H frame, but the British military was already firmly committed to the Triumph TRW.

1928 BMW project

Couldn't figure what this bike was at first, but it does closely resemble this 1928 BMW. Now, is that a Mercedes in the background?

Dictionary stand

Back from the days when you looked after books. Made of well-detailed cast iron and oak, the stand protects the spine while compensating for the changing balance of weight forward and back through the book. No makers name on the device.

Wellington, Grey, & Bruce Railway

September 13, 1870. A momentous occasion at Fergus Ontario, as the line is opened. Parliament chartered the railway in 1869 and - looking ahead! - it was leased to the Great Western Railway for 1000 years. The mainline from Guelph- (through Fergus) to Southampton was completed three years later and in the summer of 1874 had reached Kincardine. The new 168 mile line ran with Great Western equipment, including the locomotive Adam Brown and passenger train shown here in a celebration complete with bunting, marching bands and crowds of celebrants.
The railway line lasted 110 years and was abandoned in the 1980s.
