ISDT BMW 1967


 The engine seems to be lifted in the frame and pretty sure that's a Yamaha tank.

  1. The same trick used later on the Paris-Dakar racers: tilt the engine/transmission assembly up at the front so the rear wheel can be sprung lower to gain ground clearance and wheel travel without excessive angle and stress on the universal joint in the driveshaft.

  2. Thanks! The ground clearance part was self-evident; the de-stressed u-joint escaped me.

    I bet that bike was big wild-eyed fun ... for a BMW.
