And all these years I imagined that there was a stack of expensive gears, hand selected for the most nearly perfect clearances, hiding in that beautiful/goofy gold-painted casting. Another blow, in a lifetime of heartbreaking disappointments. Thanks a LOT.

They're nice to ride, but a total PITA to work on. The chain and vernier
adjustment of the cam prevent indexing the timing, so you have to re-time it
every time the head needs to come off. And THAT starts with undoing the 48 (!)
screws that hold the timing cover and the cambox. Tedious is the word...

I've always thought of these exploded views as real works of art. Can't imagine how long it would take to produce one.
