In the 1940's, Betty Sharp, pictured above, was a torch singer and a "pretty accordian (sic) player" (as opposed to the ugly kind) who reportedly dated Joe DiMaggio a few times. However, in 1946 when the Yankees and the Red Sox were competing for him, she said she and Joe were engaged, prompting a small media firestorm. Joltin' Joe denied it, and Betty later denied it, but it didn't hurt her career any. At the very least, she got her picture in the Funk & Wagnalls!
