Schooner James William

Built in 1908 by I. Matheson Company in New Glasgow NS, The James William was apparently the only steel sailing ship built on the Canadian east coast. Despite the fact that thousands of wooden cargo vessels had been built in the region in the previous century, it was the end of an era- the boatbuilders of the Maritimes did not convert to steel.
The James William had a short life, on the 14th October 1913, she ran aground near Richibucto, New Brunswick and was wrecked.
