Yes, and after more than a century, Northern Electric had morphed into Nortel. We still made things in this country, as well as designing the future. And then it all came crashing down, due to greed and incompetent leadership. It did not have to go that way (I should know, I was there....)
The downfall of Nortel was either criminal or it was embarrassing, though I bet those responsible are doing as well as ever. The "obsolete" hardware was sold to Aastra who are doing quite well.
