Bekonscot is a miniature village close to London, England, built on a scale of roughly one inch to the foot. It was begun as a hobby by Roland Callingham but opened to the public in 1929, with admission being donated to charity. It's still open today, with the addition of a model railway, and still gives most of its proceeds to charity. See Bekonscot Model Village.
The model railway is something to behold!
