Farley Mowat. Canada North. The Canadian Illustrated Library. McClelland & Stewart Ltd., 1967.
In January 1942, three Martin B26 Marauder bombers made a forced landing in the south-east Yukon, giving their landing location the name "Million Dollar Valley." Veteran Canadian Airways pilot Russ Baker rescued the 21 stranded crewmen, ironically flying them out in a Junkers. Most of the valuable equipment (engines, armaments, etc.) was immediately salvaged by the Air Force. The airframes remained in place until 1972, when they were recovered by a team organised by aviation enthusiast, David Tallichet. All three aircraft are in the process of being restored by various associations.
