She carried bulk cargo up and down the east coast for many years, carrying any load that paid; lumber, coal, granite or cement and in order to make a profit, usually overloaded. Arson was suspected when she caught fire and sunk in the North Sea while carrying war supplies in WW1.
The Edward B Winslow was so long that telephone communication was required for the bow and stern to communicate with each other. Only 10 6-masted schooners were built between 1900 and 1909.
