Sikorsky Grand

The Sikorsky Grand, built and flown in 1913- only 10 years after the Wright Flyer, was a huge biplane, with a wingspan of 92 feet and a weight of 9000 lbs. It was a massive leap forward, and featured the first enclosed cabin seating four plus pilot and a new innovation, a copilot. It was first to utilize 4 engines, could achieve 60 mph and made fifty flights before it was replaced by an even bigger and better airplane, the Ilia Mourometz.
In the bottom photo, Sikorsky (on the right) is joined by Emperor Nicholas II (center) on the front balcony.
