Great Western Timetable 1861

Interesting that they make mention of the fact that every city ran on their own time, but necessary in order to provide reliable service. 
In 1879 Sanford Fleming (a Canadian) proposed a worldwide Standard Time which was adopted by the railways in 1883. By 1929 all major countries had adopted time zones.
