De Havilland DH88

Gordon Bain, De Havilland, A Pictorial Tribute, Airlife Publishing, 1992
This airplane won the England to Melbourne air race in 1934 in a time of 70 hrs 54 minutes and 18 seconds. It was one of three identical racers entered by De Havilland. In 1935 two more were built. All five planes contined to break speed records for the next few years.
In 1965 the plane was acquired by the Shuttleworth collection after having been in storage for years and was restored to flying condition by 1987.
