Short sad life of the HMCS Venture I

AJ A Foster, Heart of Oak, Methuen 1985
The schooner Venture I was commissioned in 1937, only to be decommissioned in 1939 as war approached. She served as accommodation in Halifax harbour for Royal Navy cadets till she was sold in 1945. She was sealing vessel for a short time but had been been converted to a coal carrier when she was lost in an explosion and fire off Newfoundland in 1951.
