Short answer is, it didn't work. It was a complete waste of time. I think it was just a marketing gimmick to convince their customers (the kid's parents) that this was the latest and greatest in high technology instruction, hoping that the parents wouldn't think it through to realize the major flaw that you have pointed out. Gotta say though, stomping on the pedals and spinning the steering wheel around on these things was a lot more fun than sitting through some boring classroom lecture.
