Ferrosteel sad iron, Cleveland, Ohio



Photographed at a yard sale.  I really like the font they used for their name on the item.  The U.S. patent was granted in 1898 and assigned to the Ferrosteel Company of Cleveland. Even though at that time electrification was well underway, there were still lots of homes that relied on woodstoves and sad irons to keep their clothing pressed.

Coat these things with varnish, glue some felt on the bottom, and they make wonderful door stops.
