The 550 ton, 230 foot sidewheeler City of Monticello was built by Harlan & Hollingsworth of Wilmington, Del. in 1866. She was originally named the City of Norfolk but spent most of her life in the Bay of Fundy first on the Saint John-Digby route, later Digby to Boston and  ending her days on the Yarmouth to Halifax route.  She was lost in a storm off Yarmouth on November 10, 1900 with the loss of 63 out of the 66 people on board.
