CV-1 USS Langley

Navsource
The USS Jupiter was an innovative ship when it was launched in 1911, with the navy's first steam turbine electric propulsion system. 10 years later it was being outfitted with a flight deck and a new name, the USS Langley, to become the first American aircraft carrier.
The aviation experiment was a success but by 1936 she was obsolete and was rebuilt once again, this time into a seaplane tender.
She was sunk in the Pacific in 1942 by Japanese bombers while on the way to Java.
