The Japanese Battleship Kashima, 1915

The Book of History.  A History of All Nations from the earliest times to the present.  Vol. II.  The Far East.  New York:  The Grolier Society; London:  The Educational Book Co., 1915.

The last pre-dreadnaught battleship to be built by British shipyards, Kashima saw very little action. In 1907, one of her secondary, 10-inch guns blew up when a new powder bag came into contact with burning residue from the previous shot.  Seven officers and 27 enlisted men died. Shades of A Glimpse of Hell.

In 1921, with her sister ship Katori, she carried the Crown Prince Hirohito to Great Britain, the first state visit of a Japanese crown prince abroad

She was scrapped in 1923 and 24.
