Italy's first jet

The Caproni- Campini jet plane of the late thirties was Italy's contribution to jet engine research. It was not as advanced as the German and British jet programs. It was not a jet in the conventional sense, the compressor was driven by an ordinary piston engine. After the first flight in August of 1940, showing a top speed of about 200 mph, it made a few more display and test flights but the program was abandoned in 1942.
 Test running the engine.
