Vanished Tool Makers: Elyria Metal Products Company

Above, a stamped steel wrench from this company.  Apparently, they were one of the suppliers of tool kits for Jeeps.  They were undoubtedly stamped out by the thousands.

The company may only have existed during World War II to serve this purpose.  I assume it was located in Elyria, Ohio, near Cleveland.  Aside from being the present headquarters of the Ridge Tool Company, the city doesn't seem to have distinguished itself.

 1. I think Elyria was also a major bicycle manufacturing center in the early to mid 1900s.

 3. Hi Gerald. It's @Private Lugnutz from Garage Journal (GJ). I can assure you that you were misled on this wrench's origins. It's from a small toolkit that accompanied a WWII era oil burning stove. Technically, "Outfit, Cooking, Small Detachment," as listed in the 1944 and 1945 QMC editions of the publication for such gear, QM6. Three (3) wrenches. One of them had jaws of the "alligator" type, for various piping on the outfit. You were correct in assuming they were made by the tens of thousands, as was the cooking outfit, just not for the jeep kits, which were issued a set of five (5) engineers' type DOE wrenches of the highest quality forged alloy steel from prominent mfgrs such as Fairmount, Duro-Chrome, Barcalo, BHM, Bonney, and others. A museum exhibit quality NOS small detachment cooking outfit, including a close-up of the wrenches, can be seen in an Australian online marketplace site, linked here, if you want to see photos, or grab them for posterity.
