Cristofferson flying boat

Brothers Silas and Harry Cristofferson built flying boats in San Francisco before WW1 for promotion and passenger carrying including an air ferry service in 1923 -14 between Oakland and San Francisco. Here Silas (seated) shows an Examiner reporter around.
This was the county's second recorded airline. More here.

These things keep cropping up! This one in a alley in Toronto...

Unknown Production Press model

thanks, Rolf!

This is a model (maybe a salesmans sample?) of a production eccentric press for sheet metal. Made in Germany but with no makers marks.

Supermarine F7/30

There aren't a lot of pictures of this plane. One was built, it was not successful, but as noted, led directly to the Spitfire.

Dexter Valve reseating machine

A 19th century machine for recutting the seats of steam and water valves, though its use is not intuitive. I'm sure there are parts missing. Seen at Liberty Tool, Maine.

Full rigged ship Joseph Conrad

Another perfect image from The Art of the Boat, Photographs from the Rosenfeld Collection, Mystic Seaport Museum 2005
Launched in Denmark in 1882 as the George Stag, the full-rigged iron-hulled ship was used for training till it was sold to become a private yacht in 1934. Owned and captained by Alan Villiers and used for long distance sea voyages, the stories became a best selling book in 1937.
After serving as a training ship again after WW2, the Conrad was retired to become a museum ship at the Mystic Seaport Museum where it is today.

Willys Jeep Station wagon

This model was in production between 1953-56. By the grill this example might be a 1954.

Adding a Brough Superior to the collection...

Only in my dreams!  I picked this knee grip up years ago as part of my theory that acquired parts attract related parts and soon I would have a several Brough hulks to sort through to make one good one.  Funny, it hasn't worked with this one either.

Fading Ford F-135

This old relic found along the Trans Canada Highway is a Canadian Ford model  F-135. The 135 specifies 13500 lb GVWR, and was more widely known in the US as the Ford model F-5 (14000 lb GVWR). It doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon.

thanks, Drew!

Motorized military drummer

The need for an accompanying drummer when the whole unit is on motorcycles is questionable , but I guess traditions die hard.

CCM Cleveland bicycle

This 1936 CCM Cleveland bicycle belonged to Harry Scherback, born November 1892 and died January 1975. Harry immigrated to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada from the Ukraine in 1913. He married his wife, Annie Kolisnyk, in 1921. Annie was born in 1903 in the Ukraine. Their marriage was arranged by Annie’s brother, Nick, whom Harry met when he worked at Algoma Steel. Harry retired from Algoma Steel in 1957. He never owned a motor vehicle, his primary modes of transportation were bicycle, walking, or bus.

Pulled down from the rafters with the tires refilled with air, the bike worked just fine on a little test ride.

thanks, Bruce!

Hack saw frame

The quality of modern hacksaws is pretty bad, the maker of this frame must have agreed. Substantially constructed from 3/8" pipe and a T fitting, it looks good enough to last several lifetimes. Too bad the handle (held on with a 1/4" screw) is missing, I wonder what his solution was.

Hennecke carousel bike

This is a nicely detailed carousel motorcycle, styled like a BMW single but probably manufactured by the German company Hennecke in the 1950s. The seat is not original, being from a moped by the Finnish company Tunturi- another motorcycle company I had never heard of.

thanks once again, Rolf!

Algoma Mills Hotel CPR (Proposed)

Algoma Mills, located on the north shore of Lake Huron, was a site of early water powered sawmills, and became a major shipping point for the Canadian Pacific Railways coal delivery in the eraly 20th century. At one point the railway was planning this 300 room resort hotel for the site. This was never built.

Driving schools, 1920s

When driving was in its infancy, driving school were a lot more comprehensive than they are today, as well as driving, the focus was on the mechanical systems. These days it's hard to find someone teaching manual shifting!
Above an Italian driving school of the 20s featuring possibly a couple of Fiat 508 chassis?
Below two in German schools.

Thanks, Rolf!
