  1. Disturbingly, the arrows indicate a counter-rotating crankshaft.
    Current now, but not at all in that period, I would have thought.
    Any thoughts, dear favorite blogger, before curiosity compels me to a long enquiry ?

  2. I noticed that. I don't recall any mention of that fact in my (admittedly light) reading. Might be something as simple as the design of the transmission? Mainshaft in and concentric sleeved output with jackshaft for the gears?
    It may be that with all the other partially-resolved handling factors etc. of the time, it was not considered an issue-yet? If you get obsessed and do research it, I'll add it to the blog!

  3. Oversimplification perhaps, but on my small screen I can't see anything to prove a photo negative wasn't simply flopped...
