Every old time garage seems to have a few antique bottles up on the window ledge where they catch the light. This one caught my eye solely because its local origins. Dr Bell was a well-respected veterinary in Kingston Ontario and from that base he sold a variety of remedies for both animal and human maladies, the active ingredients being aconite, belladonna, digitalis and nux vomica (strychnine). It all came crashing down in the 1930s when the Food and Drug Administration accused the company of misbranding. Claiming 40% alcohol, the remedy turned out to be over 60%.
