In 1965 Alaska Airlines flew over 3 million pounds of oil well drilling equipment from Fairbanks, Alaska to a site near the Arctic Ocean in a 20 day span using this L-382 aircraft.

55 years of service comes to an end for N9263R. 04 Jun 2010: Landing accident at Sharana AB, Afghanistan caused considerable damage when the aircraft came down beside the runway. Propeller from engine four separated from the aircraft and landing gear came up into the airframe. Unknown if will be repaired. It wasn't, written off.
