Cars in the 'hood, Triumph Spitfire

Nice summer ride...

  1. Almost bought one of those in 1984 for $2000. Needed a new top, though, and that put me off the purchase. Sigh...

  2. I had a 1972 1500cc model in the mid eighties, same stunning colour. These are the proper bumpers for the car, not the ones with the rubber tits.
On mine, the TRIUMPH emblem on the rear bumper fell off, so I made my own, using 1/8" thick clear acrylic, Letraset, silver and black spray paint, and polishing and buffing to shape the acrylic. It ended up perfect.
Of course I replaced the manual windshield washer with a Canadian Tire electric version (I think it was from a Chev).
Didn't touch the carburetion, though, which I think was an "upgrade" (twin SU 32mm), which always ran rich**. I did run Mikuni 32s from my Suzuki Titan on them for a couple of days to see if that would improve things. Other than the overt gas smell, it didn't.
Probably my favourite car, and I am currently looking for another one.

  3. When I was a kid I admired a black fastback version (which I just am realizing must have been a GT6) parked behind an apartment building. From the back seat of my fathers car, it looked like the coolest thing ever.
