During the early days before they figured it all out. Here in this 1905 C.G.V. Landau (taken from the names Fernand Charron, Léonce Girardot and Émile Voigt) the chauffeur would sit up front, driving m'lord, milady and friends who sat facing each other for better conversation... Not that far removed from a horse and coach, I guess.
There were a few of these imported to the USA.
