One of my vices is- Another Monday Mystery

A reader, John, sent the link to this anvil-vise, recently sold on Facebook marketplace. The patent date is cast in the side, Sept 12 1912, but no makers name anywhere on it. Another little thing to research...

Thanks to info from Andy T (in the comments), we find this is covered by one of several patents granted to a C.E. Shields and was made by Rock Island Manufacturing.

  2. I think the wrong patent was posted. 1,036,155 is, coincidentally, the Rock Island vise I had in mind in my comment on this post about the Smart No 4 anvil vise:
