Cadillac V16

Cadillac introduced this OHV 7.3 liter 45 degree V16 engine for their top of the line luxury line. Unfortunately it was introduced a few months after the 1929 stock market crash so Cadillac only produced about 4000 cars before being discontinued in 1940.

  1. 1937 was the last year for the V-12 and V-16 with overhead valves and cylinders set at 45 degrees. In 1938 Cadillac, introduced a flathead version of the V-16 with the cylinders at a 135 degree configuration. It was basically two flathead straight 8's, again with separate intake and exhausts.

    Enjoy your site very much!

    Thanks!

  2. I hadn't realized there were two completely different iterations of the V16. I find it interesting that they would go from the narrow angle OHV engine to a 135 degree flathead engine. I have to do more searching!
