Does anyone fix irons any more?

Does anyone own an iron anymore?

  1. Kind of makes you proud to be a big-brained hominid, don't it? Great Works of Man, handheld category.

  2. I don't fix them but I do iron all my button-down shirts, pants, and shorts. And my pjs lol. I even iron my "wrinkle-free" shirts. I use spray starch and I like that starchy feel.

My tool of choice is the CHI Professional with the titanium-ceramic soleplate. It's inexpensive (they don't last forever), performs well and most importantly, it doesn't drip. I've tried the much more expensive Rowentas and they don't work any better and they drip. I hate a steam iron that drips.

For non-clothing ironing (repairs with iron-on tape) I have an old GE non-steam tailor's iron that I really like. Now those things do last forever.

  3. I went through a white cotton shirt phase and used an iron a lot! I soon learned that if wore a jacket, I only needed to iron the front. But too much work, these days I'm happy in a tshirt or sweatshirt...must get some shirts with buttons again...

  4. Picked one up at a thrift store for $5.00 for my iron-on patches for my jeans.

  5. I still do, but not too much lately, only for button up shirts. I have to "thank" my brother for "suggesting" I iron his CF uniform back when he was in the reserves and in a rush to get ready (every Wednesday).

But fixing them? Naw, once broken they can only be used to deter burglars.
