Monday Mystery. Double calipers


 This looks like something a blacksmith might have made, the jaws move independently. I can't figure out why someone would need something like this. Any ideas?

  1. The internet says they were used by blacksmiths when drawing down metal; one end set for thickness and the other set for width. It made hammering more efficient because you only had to flip the caliper to measure both dimensions. Apparently they were smith-made and not manufactured.
