1936 is absolutely possible, the oil lines on the rocker box indicates an early rocker box. The rest is very similar from the first until the last of the iron engines (1948/49). The cases have had some external clues mainly relating to breather position that changed over the first years. Engine number would be a clincher... The carb looks like a slightly newer Mazak AMAL 76 item, the T-bar equipped throttle stop i believe came about in the forties on velos, was also used on the Norton 500T's.
