Introduced in 1922, the Austin Seven was eight feet ten inches long and weighed 700 lbs. The 696 cc side valve inline four could push the car to 50 miles per hour. 400,000 were made before production ended in 1938.
We did John O'Groats to Land's End in my Brother-in-law's Chummy (the body style in your image) 20-odd years ago. 20 hours and 20 minutes it took us, and the car sat quite happily on the flat bits of the M6 doing 70mph. A bit breathed-on...! D.

ReplyDeleteI'm just learning about the Austin Seven engine and all the hop ups that were inflicted upon than machine. Racing classes and everything... Lots of fun, we don't see them in North America much.
ReplyDeleteThe American Bantam was a Seven built under licence, I think. There was Austin of America before that. D.
