Welding lesson

Jan '85 Classic Bike

The caption indicates that this a welding demonstration at the BSA factory in 1952. The Golden Flash plunger frame is lugged, meaning it's probably assembled in an brazing oven. I wonder what they would be adding with a torch.

  1. Possibly the rear seat mounting lugs, they look welded on.

  2. Now, do you think it was gas welding, bronze welding or brazing?

  3. I like the way that daredevil has his goggle over only his right eye, prolly trying to impress those University boys in their school ties and matching scarves.

Regardless of the caption I bet he's brazing but that's just my gut feeling.

  4. Looks like fusion welding to me (not bronze) but I'm not REALLY a welder , as the joke on the subject goes...

  5. I'm curious because I understand that about that time, Norton had contracted out the new Featherbed frame because they had no welding capability theselves.
