Monday Mystery

Photographed at a farm museum, no identification. What is this used
for?

  1. They were used to make a textured area on wet concrete, as sometimes seen on pedestrian crossings or ramps.

    1. Very short handle for that use? I didn't pick it up but assumed it was cast iron.

  2. To roughen drive belts to increase friction for steam powered farm implements? Just a guess

  3. AndyT is correct - definitely a concrete indentation roller.

  4. I can't post a link here, but start at archive [dot] org, and search texts for Parker Winder Achurch. You'll find a 1925 catalogue from Birmingham, England. Page 317 shows the tool, available in various sizes, made of brass, with long or short handles.
