Bell 500 helmet


  In 1954 California speed shop owner Roy Richter came up with a new design of motorsports safety helmet, utilizing the new fiberglass molding process.

    Roy Richter was probably good at PR, but the USAF had them earlier than that. There was a Dr. Lombard involved it seems.
