The Royal York Hotel

The Royal York Hotel opened in June of 1929, about 4 months before the stock market crash that started the Great Depression. The CPR had bought the Queens Hotel (on the same site) which was billed as one of the largest and most comfortable hotels in Canada, to build a new larger hotel they called the largest hotel in the Commonwealth, and presumably even more comfortable.
