Railroad solutions


 In the early years the track condition on the CPR was very poor, note the complete lack of ballast in this image. Derailments were common, the locomotive #6, Nicola derailed twice in September 1884. One of these incidents resulted in serious damage to her tender, so a flatcar was quickly pressed into service, fitted with a wood rack and an added water tank. Reuse, recycle and make do.
