Whiskey was only one of National Distillers Products products, they might be better described as a chemical company though they invested in many unlikely ventures, even before prohibition killed liquor sales, some of which were very successful. Basically, they used the stability of the liquor business to finance all sorts of ventures, some of which are outlined here. In 1987 Jim Beam bought the company.
I can't find what the initials PM stand for, the ad likes to suggest all some possibilities, but in the end, Maybe Possibly Pretty Mediocre? Ohhhh... not nice.
