It looks like the fairing under the seat featuring the race number has been removed to give clearance to the carburettor - was the carburettor previously located somewhere else?
Yes, that's interesting, the number should have been visible for racing, and there would have been a big K&N air filter on that too. I'll see if I can find period pictures of that bike.
