Kathleen Strange was born in London in 1896, but emigrated to Alberta where she and her husband farmed for 10 years.  In 1923, they won the World's Wheat Championship at Chicago.  In 1937 she wrote her memoir, With the West in Her Eyes.  The Story of a Modern Pioneer, which won the $1000 non-fiction prize jointly sponsored by Dodge and the Canadian Authors' Club.  It detailed the 11 years she and her husband Henry farmed, from 1919 to 1930.  A section about threshing was excerpted in a 1952 book.  I've uploaded it here:  Threshing.

The Seabreeze Electric Corporation manufactured this fan after WW2 when they were called the Phono Motor company and making motors for phonographs. This fan is long out of production of course but they are still alive and well manufacturing fans and heaters in Toronto.

1893 Duryea

Although different people were working on the idea, it's generally accepted that the Duryea brothers built the first car in America. The brothers built a two stroke engine and attached it to a carriage in 1893 but the second car with a newly developed four stroke engine assured their place in history by winning a Nov. 2 1895 race from Chicago to Evanston and back at an average speed of 5.1 mph.  This was the first auto race in the USA and only the second one in the world. This success led to the founding of the Duryea Wagon Company. Bickering between the brothers forced it into bankrupcy after twelve cars were built.

Kowa Seiki Tool Company, Japan

The Kowa Precision Machinery Industry Company was reorgnized as the Kowa Seiki Co. 1952.  The company made all of Honda's special tools, as well as tools for Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki and Mazda and Mitsubishi from the 1960's through the 2000's.   The U.S. Kowa Tools subsidiary was bought by Snap-On, but the Japanese company continues to exist.
