When I see an exposed lead screw like this vise has, I see dirt, metal filings, and other debris falling on a grease- or oil-covered Acme screw — to the detriment of its effectiveness.
Haven't found anything about the company either, but I do have a Cluthé Robertson #2 screwdriver model 22-84-1 which looks identical to a HERCULES A-1. So a possible connection there. And thanks for your Cluthé post, it was helpful.
Hello again, While looking for something unrelated... as happens sometimes with the internet! Came across a Hercules drill press which the name plate identified as being from "J. Pascal Hardware Co., Ltd. 901 Bleury St. Montreal, Canada". Searching "J Pascal Hardware Hercules" led to a blog entry, where Steve posts "...Merci infiniment pour ces photos car j’avais oublié la marque d’outils de Pascal, soit Hercules!..." which in English says "Thank you very much for these photos because I had forgotten Pascal's brand of tools, Hercules!" https://atelierdubricoleur.wordpress.com/2017/08/29/souvenirs-for-elder-quebec-and-ontario-people-souvenirs-pour-les-aines-du-quebec-et-de-lontario/
The other image results for that search show some Pascal ads and literature including a sheet for the "Hercules No. 47 Combination Farm Utility Vice and Anvil". Some of the features on it are similar to a Massey-Harris vise (removing worn cutter knives, riveting, etc.). No idea who made the vise.
I should have been patient and followed more of the trails before posting. Hope you'll forgive me for 3 in a row - I've found your vise or an iteration of it. On sale for $4.95 including loose pipe jaws! So says the Pascal-Dawson Limited advertisement on page 12 of the Sherbrooke Daily Record, Tues., Jan. 12, 1965. https://numerique.banq.qc.ca/patrimoine/details/52327/2993126 Not quite the labours of Hercules but I'm going to stop with that :)
I've seen the Hercules name on even more tools now, without being able to find any more info. This information is very good. Much appreciated! I'll have to work on another broader Hercules post.

Yes, It does not not look like a high quality tool for sure.
