Another great poster from Geo Ham. The Auto Club de France hosts the French Grand Prix- held on a public roads circuit on July 3 1938. The race was dominated by the Mercedes Benz W154 race cars, taking the top 3 places.
The 1938 French Grand Prix was one of the most farcical GP races of all-time. There were only 9 starters - 3 Mercedes-Benz W 154s, 2 Auto Union Type C/Ds, 2 Talbot T150C sports cars with their mudguards and headlights removed, an obsolete Bugatti T59, and the SEFAC, which was one of the worst GP cars of all-time.
After 2 laps, 4 cars had retired, leaving 5 cars to do the remaining 62 laps. This dropped to 4, when Etancelin's Talbot retired on lap 38. The three remaining W 154s swapped places to keep the crows entertained, von Brauchitsch winning, Caracciola second and Lang third. The only other car running, Carrièrè's Talbot had only completed 54 laps - it was lapped at least 9 times by the W154s!

Thanks for the summation, I had no idea.
