Manly Pink Sparkplugs

Not just a gimmick, the pink ceramic on these Lodge plugs was a revolutionary new ceramic named Sintox, made from sintered aluminum oxide.  The company developed this material in 1935 to replace the earlier troublesome ceramic and mica insulators.

Sir Oliver Lodge is said to have invented spark ignition for internal combustion engines and two of his sons founded the Lodge plug company in 1904 to develop his ideas. Over the next 60 years they became a major suppplier of sparkplugs for every type of engine including jets and at one point was one of the world's largest manufacturers of spark plugs.
Lodge seems to have gotten out of the plug business in the seventies and exists today as the Morgan Technical Ceramics, specialising in advanced ceramics. http://www.mtcrugby.com/
