The Art and Colour Section at GM was the automotive industry's first styling department. The section paused for a portrait here in the late 1920s, about the time that Harley Earl became director. It's not a good picture, I can't identify him among the "pretty picture" boys, as they were known at the time among the engineers within the company who also referred to the department as "the Beauty Parlour".
It also appears that colour was spelled with a "u" in those days, as we continue to do in Canada to this day.
