Born in Grafton, Ontario, Hart Almerrin Massey was the first great Canadian manufacturer, the founder of what was to become in its time the second largest farm machinery business in the world. His mower so impressed Napoleon II at the Paris Exposition of 1867 that it was decreed that only Massey mowers would cut the imperial hay. Massey's early mowers bore wonderful names like "Mighty Monarch of the Harvest Field" and "Queen of the Meadow."
