Board track racing

Even many car racing tracks were boards from 1910-1930. You can read more here:

When the Indianapolis Speedway was built, it was a bold move to pave it with millions of bricks (hence the nickname "The Brickyard", which persists to this day).

The spectaors were pretty nuts as well. Imagine if a bike flew up the banking - I don't think that the "safety" fence would stop it!
