Asa Gray, How Plants Grow

Asa Gray is considered one of the most influential American botanists of the 19th century.  Among his many other accomplishments, he arranged the publication of the first U.S. edition of Darwin's On the Origin of Species.  His book, How Plants Grow, was first published in 1858.  As you can see from the examples above, the wood engravings are absolutely beautiful.
