The Admiral Dewey



Yes, there actually such a thing as a banana boat. The Admiral Dewey was a US navy vessel constructed in Philadelphia in 1898, one of four acquired by the United Fruit Company for the banana trade. In that capacity she could carry 35,000 bunches at 14 knots. 
This boat and the other "Admiral" boats played their part in the notorious South American fruit trade which also brought us the term 'Banana Republic".
