Sturtevant torque wrench

 This ad is from the sixties, aimed at the exploding motorcycle repair industry. Paul A. Sturtevant introduced the deflecting beam type torque wrench during WW2 and his company has producing them ever since. At some point Sturtevant was bought up and combined with Richmont, makers of clicker-type torque wrenches. This not the usual story of buyouts and closed down factories, the resulting company is doing well, making a full line of torque measuring products under the Sturtevant Richmont name.

Additionally, if they are using traditional screwdrivers, workers sometimes accidentally strip screws and warp the corners of bolts, especially when they grow fatigued at the end of a long day. explore more

If you want to get even further in depth, within each category of torque wrenches, you also have various choices, anywhere from manual, to angle to full power torque wrenches. And naturally, the more complex or scientific you need your torque wrench to be, the more investment you will have in your piece of equipment. read here

Most people believe that "the tighter the better" is the way to go. Your average person will simply grab an impact wrench and tighten away. This is not the correct way to apply torque to your wheels or other critical fasteners. read here
