Thomas W. Lawson, 7 masted schooner
The steel-hulled Thomas W. Lawson was launched in 1902 as the largest (at 475 feet) purely sailing ship made and the only 7 mast schooner ever made. It was not particularly successful in its career as merchantman along the east coast of the US, it did not sail well and drew too much water to enter many ports. It was lost in a 1907 voyage to England, running aground in the Isles of Scilly during a storm.

I know nothing of the circumstances of the wreck (maybe it was foggy) but it's interesting to note that there's a lighthouse in the background which you'd have thought would have given the captain a good idea of his position.
